Ode to NYC

I never post anything but it's mostly because I forget, forget to take pictures, have nothing to say, am too busy doing other things... basically any excuse. Probably explains why I never really kept a journal at all. Anyway- things going on in my life... I have some plans cooking that if they pan out will mean that I will be leaving NYC. I am actually hoping this happens (but there is a strong chance it might not). Not that I don't LOVE NYC- I can't think of a more amazing city, but I have been here now for 7 years and my family is far away, all my friends have left the city (with a few exceptions) and I have been hating my job for over a year... for those people who ask me why I love this city, here are a few reasons:

1) Job Opportunity: Even during a recession there wasn't really a huge scare on my part that I would be laid off or even if laid off wouldn't be able to find another job quickly. There seems to be more opportunities in NYC than any where else.

2) Center of the Universe: Things happen here that don't happen anywhere else. Broadway shows aren't the same anywhere else.... we get the best concerts and coolest events... Also, National News is usually just NYC news- good or bad- world events take place in a 5 mile radius from me and there is something thrilling about that

3) Style: I will forever love the east coast for it's preppy and classic style... when I moved here I felt like I had come home to like minded people

4) Religious Tolerance: Growing up in the SF Bay area, I always felt that it was ironic that in a place that pats itself on the back for being so tolerant was actually not really so and that as a person who was religious, I felt that most people labeled me as "brainwashed" or "stupid" because of my beliefs. In NYC, religion is respected. People might not agree- but they get it. They get that faith is a driving reason for things. I thank the Jews and the Catholics for that one. NYC has really been a great place to be Mormon.

5) NYC History: The history of NYC is really the history of the USA. The events that took place in this city shaped our nation and you can feel it as you walk through the street.

Greed is good

I have been sick for the past few days and part of the line-up of entertainment from my couch via netflix was the latest Wall Street Movie... which quite frankly just made me anxious and nervous about the state of our economy and the banking system. That being said, I am titling this entry with one of Gordon Gecko's famous lines "Greed is good". While I don't know that it always is, today I am feeling greedy.
