Winters in NYC suck. By suck I mean they are frigid as well as often times, very snowy. This winter is epecially bad. Growing up in California, my relationship with the snow and cold was a good one- one that I only experienced when I saught it out to go skiing, etc. My relationship with the snow and ice was so good that I even went to school in Utah- where the winters are quite snowy and cold. There were days, I admit that I would look out of my window though- and if there was snow on the ground get right back into bed vs. going to class. But overall, it wasn't THAT bad. Afterall, I had a car so most of my time spent outside in the frosty mess was the time it took me to get from my car to whatever heated place I was going to. I mistakenly thought that these experiences would prepare me for winters in NYC. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I am on my 5th winter here in this city, and am sorry to say- I am still not used to it. I have, in my few years here found some delightful (albeit, ugly items) that have helped me cope with this wintery mess. Anyone coming to NYC in the winter, listen up- your stay in this city will be much better with these items than without:
Uggs. They are extremeley ugly, but oh so wonderfully warm and waterproof (if you waterproof them)

Sleeping bag coat. Also, extremely ugly, but oh so wonderfully warm and waterproof (see a theme)

Even with these items helping me cope with the frigidness, I still can't look out my window at the frozen city outside and wonder what the temperature is in Los Angeles right now...
